Whether you ride on the street, off-road or at the track, you may want to consider an electric motorcycle. Quiet motors and the need for charging rather than refueling are only two essential differences. Discover the top 10 electric motorcycles, seven of which are currently in production.

 1. Zero SR

Clean design and an expertly-designed motor set the SR apart from the competition. The top speed of this model is 102 miles per hour, and the Z-Force motor delivers 70 peak horsepower with 116 pound-feet of torque. The range maxes out at 223 miles of city riding, up to 136 highway miles, or between 150 and 169 combined miles. The SR starts at $16,495.

 





2. Energetica EVA 107 

The first pure electric streetfighter from Energetica has a top speed of 125 mph in sport mode and a 125 mile range in eco mode. Use a quick charger to regain an 85 percent charge level in just half an hour. EVA 107 models start at $21,656.

 



3. Victory Empulse TT

Polaris shuttered Victory Motorcycles in 2017, but the Empulse TT remains a great buy. This bike was originally designed by Brammo, and late models have top speeds over 100 mph and can travel 85 to 100 miles on a charge. Polaris will honor service and warranty coverage and continue making parts for 10 years. 2017 models sell around the MSRP of $20,000, but some used older models are available for $10,000 or less. Polaris plans to release new electric motorcycles in the Indian line.

4. Zero S

Zero's basic street model is available in several configurations with ranges from 60 miles up to 150 miles. The motor has 60 peak horsepower versus 70 in the SR model, and 81 pound-feet of torque compared with 116 pound-feed in the SR. Prices range from $10,995 up to $16,980.

 5. Energetica EGO

The sporty EGO accelerates from zero to 60 mph in three seconds and has a top speed of 150 mph. The range is up to 93 miles. Base models start at $22,565 and special editions are available.

6. Brutus V9

If you want a powerful electric motorcycle, the V9 packs 125 peak horsepower and 227 pound-feet of torque. This model has a top speed of 115 mph, a 280-mile range and starts at $32,490.

7. Lightning LS-218 

The fastest production electric motorcycle has a top speed of 218 mph. This LS-218 has 180 miles of range and a record-setting motor with 200 horsepower and 168 pound-feet of torque. Expect to spend at least $38,888.

8. Harley-Davidson LiveWire

Harley-Davidson's long-awaited electric motorcycles will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds and have a top speed of 95 mph. The range is estimated at 110 miles. The release of this model, which starts at $29,799, is scheduled for August 2019.



9. KYMCO SuperNEX

Taiwanese motorsports company KYMCO introduced the SuperNEX at EICMA 2018. This supersport bike is not in production yet, but the prototype accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and has a 155 mph top speed. The distance range and price have not been released.

10. Alta Motors Redshift SM

This street-legal supermoto has a top speed of about 80 mph and a range of roughly 50 miles for urban commuter use, 40 highway miles, or about 20 minutes of racing. The SM model starts at $13,495.

The Harley-Davidson LiveWire and KYMCO SuperNEX are the only models on this list that are not yet available. The LiveWire is due for release in the fall of 2019, and the SuperNEX does not currently have a release date. These innovative electric motorcycles indicate a new trend in riding.
