Can-Am Announces Prototypes of New Electric Motorcycles

Aug. 24 2022 News By Chaparral Motorsports

Can-Am has just announced its two new prototypes for electric motorcycles. These are the Origin adventure bike and the Pulse roadster. It’s been announced that both of these production models will be available from mid-2024. It will be a year before the details and specs are released, but the company has hinted at what’s coming.

There are many riders who don’t know the history of the company and where it fits into the history of motorcycles. The company’s first motorcycle was introduced in 1973. During this period, dirt bikes were extremely popular, and Can-Am offered bikes that were all about off-roading. They were popular bikes that performed well. However, competition was coming from Europe and Japan, and in the mid-80s, Can-Am closed its motorcycle division. But luckily for the public, Can-Am came out with a teaser video that introduces its new electric concept motorcycles.

The concepts of the Origin and the Pulse look like they have the same frame and use the drivetrain architecture Rotax “EPower.” Can-Am hasn’t given much more information than this. Both of the new bikes use large dash screens, single-sided swingarms, and have bright LED lighting. The paint and bodywork on both bikes make them look very much like the current bikes offered by Husqvarna. The Can-Am models have single front disc brakes, so they are believed to have a light weight and a mild performance. The company has given no specs for it, but a company rep has said that the Pulse has a highway-worthy top speed. They are also described by the company as having a lot of torque and power and can charge quickly. They use charging stations that are standard level 2.

The Can-Am Origin

There is a section above the skid plate that is yellow, and this is the battery. Its Rotax motor is apparently located in the swingarm, similar to a number of scooters.

This motorcycle uses spoked wheels, and it has a higher suspension so that it can be used off-road. The tires and bodywork look in that they have a degree of dual-sport ability. Can-Am has stated that the Origin doesn’t have a clutch or manual transmission.

The Can-Am Pulse

The Pulse will be the bike introduced for commuters. It looks like it uses 17-inch tires and has cast wheels. The look of the suspension is pretty average for street bikes, and there is a small amount of forward lean for the riding position.

The company sees electric motorcycles as the future of riding, and it’s working hard on electric vehicles. In 2024m customers in North America will be the first to get these bikes. Can-Am is seeking to reclaim its heritage of creating motorcycles by introducing these two electric bikes.
